Here is our Jeopardy question.

It has inspired revolutions, stayed the sword, brought stoic men to their knees and returned endless happiness to the universe. In it, we place our greatest wisdom and our most discordant humor. It contains the tragedy and the joy of the human condition. It is the outlet for our experience, the flavor of our lives. It speaks to all of us, but has no mouth.

Untitled-1-1024x338So what is Art?

Despite its simplicity, that word encompasses every expression of human beings from  creativity and ingenuity to the assemblage of clothes on our back or the tune we whistle. And to make the word even more complicated, it also may have nothing to do with human activity. Art may squarely be in the eye of the beholder as well as in the conscious, subconscious and corporal of the human maker. One can see, hear, experience Art in the sound of nature, the pattern of clouds, in the smell of pine and the microscopic images of bacteria.

Literally, everything in the universe can be a piece of art. What people create can be art. We are our own self creations and can be thought of as pieces of art. Everything in nature has constructed itself with architectural elements and patterns that can be considered pieces of art. Our construct of the aesthetic and meaning of art is less about human creation and more about the perception of pattern and meaning wherever it may be found.

Classically, from the SLANT of inheritance, we hold art in a special category. One can decide to head to the art museum to go see some curated art. The walk takes us past a multitude of faces and expressions, past gum patterns on the sidewalk, past flowers and animals and vegetables and mineral water bottles. Past sky and sound and smell and movement. Past painted clothing and geometrically nuanced buildings.

As we step further into the the age of Computer Aided Life – CAL, the line defining what is and is not Art is being erased. Art is a pattern that catches our conscious or subconscious attention.

Art is signal. The rest appears as noise.

The construct of art holds three dimensions –
        human creation
               pattern:signal perception
                   and conscious:subconscious meaning.

The processing of our conscious and subconscious defines art:

That the sound of our speaking voice is not thought of as art.
That curated art is held in higher esteem than an individual’s very private creation.
That the bits of creation, all around us as we visit the art museum, are ignored.
That the private spectrum of beauty produced by millions of people is ignored as art.
That “man” – literally a “man made” piece of art – is not considered a work of art.
That art is associated with a single individual, not with participative and interactive expression.

Y Worlds employs a conscious perspective of Art that involves Nurture, Equality, Truth and Systems. Art is a multidimensional spectrum – not a hierarchy. It can be appreciated and understood from the creator’s standpoint, the viewers standpoint, the objective distant 3rd party standpoint, the curator’s standpoint and the standpoint of markets:media of interest. It cannot be accurately understood via current history because the creations of women and a large portion of the general population were never witnessed by more than a few. Here is a wonderful independent movie about one of the millions of missed sharings.

The digitally enabled multi media experience, CAL, is becoming the source of a truly majestic revolution in communication. It is flattening out the artificial hierarchies and value judgements. It is equalizing, maximizing and globalizing access.

Analog is great. Long live analog. But CAL changes the definition of Art.

More and more audiences can tailor their own experiences. To some degree they can magnify the power of the message. Both works of art and perceptions of art are given potential through the choices of actualized human beings via new channels of creation and communication. The metaphors we rely on to communicate our greatest understandings can be tuned and molded by the audience. It can drive us to look within ourselves in a way we never thought possible.

At Y Worlds we perceive everything as a spectrum of interconnected systems.

Clearly, a new language of communication is evolving. One that incorporates the totality of the human capacity to understand and perceive. Y Worlds is building models of color, pattern, sound, symbolism and interactivity to break through all barriers of understanding. Structures, rhythms, patterns and exchanges are the universe, they are art and they are the future of understanding. Art is how we express complexity and condense understanding.

The majesty
of the commons
is that
majesty
is everywhere.

  1. OR simply genius of sacred beings called children and having fun in the “Object de Art” of there own playfulness on a blank page inventing new narratives. My honest assessment is “complexity” isn’t all that wonderful as it is currently made out to be? Now I say that because when I say “complex” I am referring to “confusion” seeking to understand some thing. A child doesn’t have that problem until we indoctrinate them into confusion complexities looking for right answers only to find themselves wondering how did I get here?

In the old days before money there was real art and it appears no killing or wars. Wonder what happened here? Just maybe we are the problem and all the seriousness in the world is incapable of fixing the complexity in the observer error?

I learn a lot of how to become an artist from chauvet caves!

    Great question!

  3. Very recent studies of how our brain works show that we process the world as high level relational constructs that
convert complexities into a manageable form. The Chauvet drawings are a beautiful example of that process. tks

  5. Let’s Plant the Tree of Our Humanness as the Object de Art as a child centric learning
community in solidarity. It’s time to integrate art, technology and society and reject the blind representation assumptions inspiring cultural technological innovations 1st that the global marketplace justifies everything including all the robotic bullsh$%t in governance by elite blind men at the top of the pyramid, 2nd that modern developmental progress is the one and only value and transcends our humanness and we must submit to it in order to create a for future together as blind deaf dumb lab rats in technological distrust, confusion and despair! I say its all horsesh$%t by a few psychopaths projecting antisocial dysfunctional behaviors maybe these men missed being potty trained properly or maybe it was Dr. Spocks advice to bottle train babies and not breast fed, or who knows what? I literally don’t care and they definitely need to learn art and how to ride a horse before they are given authority in an organizational or cultural setting in my assessment.

  7. I approve this message and take full responsibility for its content, context and political ramifications which is intentionally spoken to create an “American Spring” demanding a 28th amendment to the USA Constitution called “The Privacy Act” where the locus of control is returned to every human being’s natural artistic virtual identity and corporate performance engines look for a “new identity” in the global universal business code running this ship of fools on Titanic. As you can see I have already jump off and offer Escape is easy, fun and filled with laughter as we take back the power as pro consumers in designing a future together!

    Escape by D.H. Lawrence

When we get out of the glass bottles of our own ego,
and when we escape like squirrels from
turning in the cages of our own personality
and get into the forest again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don’t know ourselves.

Cool, unlying life will rush in,
and passion will make our bodies taut with power,
we shall stamp our feet with new power
and old things will fall down,
we shall laugh, and institutions will curl up
    like burnt paper.
