semioticroadmapWhat is, is. Knowledge is a word that embraces mankind’s best attempts to understand “what is”. The Y World Cooperative is founded on the premise that everything in the universe, and every bit of knowledge, consists of dynamic generative elements. These elements can best be viewed through a spectrum of perspectives that incorporate the systemic nature of “what is”.

We are introducing a spectrum of dynamic multi-perspective models driven by a generative visual mapping language. The portal into this knowledge is Y Worlds Model – a 3×3 matrix that is defined and developed in this section.  It helps us navigate through systemic knowledge based on our objectives and desired perspective.  The Y Worlds Model and all of our Y Maps are semiotic; they extract and apply the power of visual and auditory representation to the modeling and mapping of systemic meaning.  Words, images, simulations and data are embedded in our approach –  linked underneath different sections of our semiotic maps to provide documentation and detail.

The Y Worlds Model and all of our other models embed meaning through systemic, ontological forms that are populated by orchestrated patterns and flows of color and sound. These dynamic, generative visualizations and auditory propagations will comprehensively translate complexity into understanding. Patterns of meaning are embedded in these maps and models through a process and language called Visual Y, and these patterns emerge according to the objectives of the end user. The creation of these living maps relies on an eclectic mix of thoughtful people guided by an evolving set of principles and guidelines – Y Worlds Cooperative. The models and maps will be dynamic, changeable and fully documented.

We introduce for your consideration and development the Y Worlds Model.  You can think of it as a gateway to our universe.  Each matrix domain offers a particular perspective on a subject and can be used individually or in tandem with other domains.

When the Y Worlds Model is coded for real time, browser-based, generative interaction,  it will be able to be opened as windows, opened and closed, zoomed, time sequenced or stacked according to the needs and objectives of the user.

Our first iteration of the Y Worlds model consists of a 3×3 matrix with controls.  It is a guide to build the interactive, multi-layered Y Worlds site.  Note that what we are showing to you here is a simple snapshot and in no way conveys the generative, dynamic, interactive multi-layered properties that we have in mind for its implementation.

We are introducing 9 representational sections and filters, of knowledge that are part of the singular integrated model – Y Worlds. The Y Worlds Model is the whole of the 9 parts and encompasses all of the perspectives, variants, and layers of detail that come with it.

Review the Y Worlds Knowledge Model and all of its forms and functions. Help us adapt and revise it so that it serves our objective – to effectively process and understand the complexity of everything important.

We are currently developing conceptual framework for this high level visual modeling language.  The next step is to begin to fill in content to create a revolution in managing complexity through semiotics.

Our work is based in semiotics–the study of signs, sign systems and sign processes, symbols, signification, systems of communication, meaning and language. Y Worlds Cooperative is working to integrate a diverse range of research in fields such as bio-semiotics, computational semiotics, and cognitive semiotics. We are also incorporating semiotic coding systems including syntactics, cybernetics, and more.

Our semiotic systems use the Visual Y language to organize knowledge. These knowledge visualization systems are organic in that they are dynamically generative and not necessarily predetermined or static. Their embodiments–patterns and forms–are robust and scalable and always adaptive – driven by the particular needs and objectives of the user. These embodiments serve as semiotic constructions that represent reality – knowledge constructs. Visual Y is both the engine and process for the creation of signifiers that translate the signified – complex knowledge –  into a universal semiotic language of understanding.

The essence of the Visual Y language is rooted in the study of semiotics in that it prescribes multimedia as a core component of a system for communicating representations of complex knowledge.  Standardized signs, symbols, colors, patterns, motions and sounds are applied to multi-level framework of maps and map views.  Browser based tools will enable a distributed community of users to interact with and enhance the multimedia representations.  The Y Worlds user community operates in a wiki-style format to communicate with one another using the language of Visual Y.
