We are thinking that shape is most useful as an attribute of our models and not for conveying what is happening within the models. But certain aspects of shape, such as sharp points or rounded points, intersections and other studied properties translate on the far end of a universal scale of understanding and therefore needs to be employed within pattern as well as model. We think shape needs to be more organic. Naturally formed systems have very few pure straight lines. The forms of nature provide us with far more inspiration for shape than our current visualization systems can deliver.
