Summary

Everything on earth is connected.
No Away is shorthand for the fact, and the principle, that nothing is ever thrown away. There is no AWAY.
Everything remains within the envelope of earth and atmosphere. And everything is dynamic, capable of interacting, adding, subtracting, and changing whatever is touched.

There is what occurs across the matter, energy and life of the universe. And there is what man makes of the stuff of the universe. Our focus with No Away is that when we transform what is into man made objectives, we now possess the power to irrevocably and irresponsibly introduce new stuff, new dynamics, new reactions, and new futures that distort and damage the capacity of life on earth to reach our potential.

Our words and concepts for trash, garbage and waste suggest there is a way to discard. There is no way to discard.

Humans use the earth. We get to choose for what purpose, for what end. All life uses the earth.

At Y Worlds, we believe we are all part of an orchestra of complex systems, each with elements distinguishable from others, each inextricably intertwined.

We have five systemic options when we consider the idea of “waste”.

At the highest level, we need to define our principles and objectives.
We need to consider options and choices and opportunity costs before we act.
We need to gather knowledge in order to understand the variables and relationships among the variables.
We need to follow all possible exchanges and patterns of interaction that can possibly be involved in the topic at hand.
We need to explore all systemic dimensions, from cost implications, from sustainability, from human tolls, from economics, from distribution of wealth, from health, from long term effects on ecology and climate, from energy, from political power, from horizontal enterprise etc.
